Karen Campbell has lived, traveled, and worked across Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Caribbean providing field-based advisory services in the field of international development.

For over two decades, she has worked in countries experiencing war, political transition, and conflict during some of the most defining geopolitical events of recent times, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict; the transition to democracy in Burma/Myanmar in 2012; violent extremism in the Horn of Africa; the COVID-19 pandemic; and most recently, the return to Taliban rule in Afghanistan in 2021.

For the past thirty years, she has served as President & CEO of Metropolitan Consulting Corporation (MCC) and is recognized for her leadership in implementing large-scale development projects located in complex operating environments, often characterized by extreme security risks.

Most recently, Ms. Campbell lectured on The Subtleties of Effective Project Management in Wicked Environments at Tilburg University in the Netherlands.  In addition, she speaks publicly about issues of entrepreneurship and the state of women and minorities in business.

Ms. Campbell’s work has led her to write social commentary inspired by her observations and conversations with people from various walks of life, often through the lens of a woman of color.

Ms. Campbell currently resides in Washington, D.C., and Cape Town, South Africa.
